Augusta da Malintrada is a project born from three counter-current producers. In the lower Piave area, viticulture has become almost entirely monocultural: the widespread uprooting of local varieties in favour of glera for Prosecco has led to a progressive loss of the territory’s identity. The founders chose to go in the opposite direction: to recover and carry forward that identity through an old vineyard dating back to 1964, embraced out of passion and respect for wine and the land. Everything they do is deeply artisanal. They work mainly by hand, use machines only where necessary, and tend the vines with care, allowing nature to follow its own rhythms.

Task
The client’s brief was to represent the identity of their company, from the logo to the labels.

Solution
To represent this soul made of slow rhythms and care, I chose to design the labels using an analogue method: cyanotype, one of the very first photographic printing processes, invented in 1842. By collecting leaves directly from the vineyard, I “photographed” them through this ancient solar printing technique, using the sun as a fundamental element, the same sun that ripens Augusta’s grapes, avoiding any artificial imagery. Scanning and digital processing then allowed me to design the label, pairing the leaf with strong chromatic contrasts in shades of red to give it character and represent the colour of the wine.
For the typography, the wine name is set in Necto Mono Regular by Collletttivo, a monospaced typeface that evokes handcraft and carries with it the memory of typewriter keystrokes. The informational texts use Work Sans Regular instead, a clean, contemporary sans-serif.
